Kinds of fun

Kinds of fun ( week 7 reading ) This weeks reading was a pretty long one with lots of interesting points and information to be aware of in relation to the world of game design. It was good to read about things most commonly enjoyed by others in games as I could relate to these aspects that would also be important to me and the different types of people they would appeal to, these being  achievement exploration socializing  imposition  I thought the examples of player text in this reading was actually really well used and acted as a great example of the text it was reflecting. I like the break down of each different type of player and what they would be looking for, I think this is something every game developer has to keep in mind when thinking about their games world, mechanics, elements, and how they will use these to please their audience.  Link 1 Link 2 Link 3

Link to Dundoc This week our project work we have been finalizing and fleshing out our GDD. This has been a very important step in the overall development of our project. The purpose of this was to prepare the tasks I intend on completing and act as a guideline to completing my project. In this GDD I discuss the important elements of the game. I  divided this into different sections such as Characters  Environments  Gameplay/controls  Art design  Sound design UI design  I then disused each element included in these headings in more detail. Such as I discussed how and why the layout of the map design will be and how it will impact the gameplay overall feel of the game. I discuss the importance of each element in enough detail to allow me to refer to the document while working on the game. This will prevent me from missing details and allowing me to keep on track of what I have to do and what exactly it is what I want to do

Game Design Document This week for project work I have completed my game design document. I have treated this like a more in debt manual and guide to how I would like and will design my game. I have decided to listen to advice given and complete my GDD on the website Dundoc. This website proved helpful as i could lay out different elements in a specific order making it easier to think about them.  My Dundoc layout

Games Decisions (reading week 6)

Cozy Video games  In this weeks reading the topic is of the term cozy and its belonging and featuring within video games. Cozy games are a specific genre of games that invoke a sense of enjoyment, adventure, satisfaction, and thrill while not being threatening to the player or creating a sense of discomfort.  This means at no point the player should feel stressed, uncomfortable, scared or humiliated during their play time. Animal Crossing is a great example of a cozy game  A cozy game can have different features some being: Cute, childlike,  homely, small word and romantic. These are all features that are easy to work around for players who want a cozy experience. This is much more ideal than a game that deals with violence and death. Visuals are very important when designing a cozy game as it is what the player will see directly and will be what strikes them the most. visuals in a cozy game should be: warm or vibrant colors to create a happy warm atmosphere.
