Learning Challenge- sleep

Image
What would happen if you didn’t sleep? After looking at the selection of videos I decided to watch this video on sleep. I find the brain and the power of sleep to be very interesting. One thing that the video confirmed for me was that you do indeed need sleep !! It was interesting to learn more about the chemical aspect of sleep as in the release of Adenosine and Melatonin, this is something I wasn't too familiar with. I would like to look more into the impact reduced sleep can have on dieting and general health. It would be interesting to see the difference between someone with a good diet and a goo exercise routine with a good sleep pattern vs someone who has a good diet and exercise routine that does not sleep so well. I think the sleeping aspect will play a significant role. The important thing to take away is don't forget to get those 7-8 hours at night!!! image link

Tech Task- Bookmarking Tips

Image
Bookmarking tips !! This tech task was to explore bookmarking within the browser and I have taken the recommendation to use Diigo. Diggo is more than just bookmarks but it takes the principle of saving links and takes it further. This allows the user to bookmark, archive, screenshot and highlight information and store it along the side. This is incredibly useful as it is an all in one utility meaning all of the information you need is all in one place, letting you avoid confusion. Setting up an account is simple and you can even use your google account if preferred. It is easily installed either trough the website or by the chrome store. when installed you are given tips and walked through who to use each feature which is nice.  Side bar outliner  My favourite feature of the application is the sidebar outliner. This makes is super easy to take notes and saves them so you can return to the page later if needed. So you have the link to the page and notes taken all in one place

Project Testing

Project testing and progress  So this week I have been really felling the pressure of all the work and trying to budget my time better so I dont fall too far behind. I started last week with some issues with unity crashing and performing very slowly, luckily this was fixed with a simple uninstall and a reinstall. With my newly installed unity I have be trying to catch up on creating my landscape and working on better movement for my character. I have found some great tutorials to help me with more fluid running and to allow for pressure sensitive controls for jumping. The better jumping means I can set platforms and spaces more accurately as I know exactly how the player can reach the platform. All this should allow for a better user experience. I have my first person controller working fine and I have a good chunk of the layout formed. The task at hand is really deciding the best way to  lay everything out to create a challenging and fun level for the player to run through.

unity free tutorial

Unity tutorial better jumping  This weeks unity tutorial will be aiding me to improve the jumping mechanic and allow for a better controlled and more fluid experience. This tutorial is based on using gravity and colliders and using scrips to improve them. The whole point of the tutorial is to allow for the player to decide on their jump force and distance. This means the harder the player holds the jump button the higher an longer the jump will activate. This works by incorporating velocity and a fall multiplier. In our script file we need two floats fall multiplier and a low multiplier. Then we need to reference these to our body. Finally, we must have an update the command, so if the player hits jump the script will it will apply the gravity we set and then this will be multiplied by the fall multiplier we set then we will multiply this all by the actual time been " Timedeltatime. This all together will allow the player to have more control over placement and allow me

Games Testing week 10

Games Testing (week 10 reading) In this weeks reading we are looking at the topic of criticism and the different forms it takes and how people perceive it. This article discusses how criticism is a good thing and I would agree ( once it is given correctly). without criticism, there is no real way for one to improve their product as they will be closed minded and unable to see problems others might see easily. There is no point in asking people to test their product then being unhappy when they don't receive the praise expected for certain elements. Constructive criticism isn't having your product wrongly criticized it is to aid in the final product, the goal isn't to hurt the feelings of the creator but to help them achieve what they set out to do. The could be explaining that certain colors don't go well together or something doesnt work as it should. These examples should be taken on board but not as complaints but as useful feedback to keep the creator on tra
